Akron Defensive Coordinator Chuck Amato Speaks at Durham Sports Club

Akron defensive coordinator Chuck Amato returned to a place that has been vital to his life yesterday. The former NC State player and coach was in Durham, North Carolina as the guest speaker at the Durham Sports Club.

The event was held at the Croasdaile Country Club. Amato spoke for 30 minutes and was able to share how special the Wolpack community is to him.

He was also able to share stories from his coaching career at other stops. The crowd was certainly riveted to find out more about a life in football that spans five decades.

Amato got his first opportunity in college coaching at his alma mater in 1971. He rose to the position of defensive coordinator before leaving for Arizona in 1980.

After a two-year run with the Wildcats, Amato began his 18-year tenure as one of Bobby Bowden's lead assistants at Florida State. He helped the Seminoles win eight straight Atlantic Coast Conference titles from 1992-99.

Amato was hired as the head coach at NC State in 2000 after winning a national championship at FSU. He spent seven seasons guiding the Wolfpack and led them to a school-record 11 wins in 2002.
