American Marathon Great Dick Beardsley Speaks at the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon

The Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon had the privilege of welcoming one of the sport's legends this weekend. Marathon great Dick Beardsley spoke at a series of events surrounding the Champaign-based race.

On Friday, Beardsley gave a 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. talk at the ARC Auditorium. He also made several appearances at expo events during the weekend.

Beardsley co-hosted the Illini Radio Group pre-race radio show on Saturday morning. He was able to talk to running enthusiasts about his tremendous career.

Beardsley is best known for the iconic 1982 Boston Marathon where he finished runner-up after losing the race by seconds. A year before, he tied for the lead in the very first London Marathon.

Beardsley is the only man to have recorded 13 straight personal bests in the marathon. The feat is still recorded to this day in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Beardsley held a record time for Grandma's Marathon for 33 years. In 2010, he was inducted into the National Distance Running Hall of Fame.
