Ballerina Misty Copeland's Under Armour Endorsement Gains Value with Latest Accomplishment

During the latest evolution of Under Armour, the fast-rising company has pursued some of the most unique sports personalities to endorse their products.  Ballet dancer Misty Copeland is no exception.

With Copeland now being the first African-American woman to be named Principal Dancer at American Ballet Theatre, that partnership consummated in 2014 has added value for Under Armour.  She will officially assume the post of Principal Dancer this fall.

Under Armour has been aggressively targeting the women’s market with their products and endorsers like Copeland.  The company has also benefited on a larger scale by a partnership with reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry and the winner of golf’s first two majors this year, Jordan Spieth.

Last year’s Under Armour ad campaign featuring Copeland vaulted her into a new stratosphere of fame.  The spot has over eight million views on YouTube and following its release she was named ABC World News Person of the Week.

In May, Copeland was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.  She did not start in ballet till the age of 13, but quickly rose to be among the world’s best.

Copeland’s rise through the ballet ranks has inspired many.  In 2014, she published a memoir “Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina” and also joined the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.
