Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez Gives Commencement Address at Charter School Next Month

The Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School is bringing star power to their commencement on June 2nd. Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez will speak.

The ceremony takes place at the school in Allentown, Pennslyvania at 9:30 a.m. The school's fifth graduating class has 52 students who are all going on to get a college education.

In addition to graduating from high school, 12 students will also receive a college associate's degree through The Original School to College Pipeline program. The commencement is free and open to the public.

Martinez is almost unanimously considered the most dominant pitcher of his era. He was an eight-time All-Star and three-time American League Cy Young Award winner.

Martinez led the AL in strikeouts three times, led the major leagues in ERA five times and won pitching's Triple Crown in 1999. While he pitched for five different teams, he was best known for his time with the Boston Red Sox and helped them erase an 86-year World Series drought in 2004.

Martinez finished his career with a 219-100 record, a 2.93 ERA and over 3,000 strikeouts. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015 and currently serves as an analyst for MLB Network.
