Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Mullin Throws Out First Pitch Wednesday at Mets Game

It has been a whirlwind spring and summer for basketball legend Chris Mullin.  Mullin has gone back to his roots and joined the college basketball coaching ranks by taking the job at his alma mater, St. John’s, this past April.

Mullin will get a moment to be acknowledged by his hometown fans when he makes an appearance at Citi Field on Wednesday.  He will be throwing out the first pitch prior to the New York Mets game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The St. John’s campus is located less than ten miles from the stadium.  This will undoubtedly be great exposure for Mullin and the program as they embark on a new era of Red Storm basketball.

Mullin is a storied figure in the school’s history with a record 2,440 points scored in his collegiate career.  With him firing up the shots, St. John’s made four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament and an appearance in the 1985 Final Four.

He gained even greater notoriety during a 16-year pro career that saw him star most notably with the Golden State Warriors.  Mullin was a five-time All-Star and finished with nearly 18,000 points scored.

In retirement, Mullin had become a popular broadcaster for ESPN.  He had also had front office roles with the Warriors and Sacramento Kings prior to taking the head coaching job with the Red Storm.
