Basketball Stars From Past and Present Host NBA Cares Clinic in the Philippines

This weekend, a trio of NBA stars got a taste of how basketball-crazed the Philippines are.  Retired power forward Horace Grant joined current Los Angeles Laker Jordan Clarkson and the Utah Jazz’s Trey Burke at an NBA Cares event in Manila.

The players taught basic fundamentals to the crowd of youngsters in attendance on Saturday.  They also hosted a variety of other events during their stay including a playoff watch party.

In his career, Grant was a key piece of four championship teams with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers.  He was a one-time All-Star and four-time All-Defensive Second Team honoree.

The trip overseas was especially meaningful for Clarkson who is a Filipino-American.  After being a second round pick of the Lakers this past offseason, he made the All-Rookie First Team while averaging 11.9 points per game.

Burke has similar hope for a long career in the NBA after averaging 12.8 points during his first two seasons with the Jazz.  He was also a collegiate star at Michigan, earning National College Player of the Year honors and being a consensus first-team All-American in 2013.
