Brooklyn Nets Guard Wayne Ellington Speaks at Peace Day Philly March

Personal family tragedy has bought Brooklyn Nets player Wayne Ellington to a place where he can hopefully do some good.  Ellington lost his father to a shooting in Philadelphia last November.

The NBA guard entering his eighth year is working to help limit other families for having to deal with similar tragedies.  Ellington is the keynote speaker today for Peace Day Philly’s “March for Peace”.

The marchers are congregating at 10:00 at Mount Airy Park.  Growing up less than a mile from where participants are walking gives Ellington a unique connection to the event.

In tribute, Ellington is wearing a shirt with his father’s name on the back during the march.  Others are also following suit and showing respect for the people they have lost.

Ellington started 36 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last year and averaged 10 points per contest.  The Minnesota Timberwolves originally selected him 28th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Ellington starred in three seasons at the University of North Carolina.  He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four in 2009 as the Tar Heels won the NCAA title.
