Former NBA and international star basketball player Chris Herren at the Drug Awareness Expo on September 15 at 6:30pm with Republican Rep. Kurt Masser to share his story with more students and adults. Herren was recently the subject of one of ESPN's "30 for 30" episodes where he discussed his ups and downs that he had faced growing up and how he was able to redeem himself. 

The Massachusetts native played for both Boston College and Fresno State during his collegiate years, and had failed a few drug tests during his time there. Due to not passing a drug test for Boston College and getting expelled, he then transferred to Fresno State to play basketball but ended up failing yet another drug test that led to his submission to rehab. After doing two months of recovery at a professional facility he returned to the Fresno State team and was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the 1999 NBA draft.

In 2000 Herren played a season with the Boston Celtics and then went on to play overseas for several clubs including Skipper Bologna, Galatasaray, Beijing Ducks, Jiangsu Dragons, Energy Braunshweig, Paykan, and Anwil Wioclawek. He now spends most of his time living in the United States and traveling to different schools to provide kids insight about what he learned from his struggles from drugs.

Herren will be speaking at the Drug Awareness Expo on September 15 at 6:30pm with Republican Rep. Kurt Masser to share his story with more students and adults. It is likely to be an inspiring talk that will teach everyone the dangers associated with using toxic substances.
