Coaching Trailblazer Jen Welter Speaks at Pro Football Hall of Fame

There is no question the impact Jen Welter has had on the NFL coaching ranks. She has opened a pathway for women who have a passion for the game to be involved.

On Monday, Welter shared her experiences at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Her talk was titled, “Play Big – A Chalk Talk with Jen Welter.”

The cost to attend the session was $15. Those who were there also received a copy of her newly released memoir, Play Big: Lessons Being Limitless from the First Woman to Coach in the NFL.

Welter made history when she became a coaching intern for the Arizona Cardinals during training camp in 2015. However, her foray into the NFL was not the only time in her life she has been a trailblazer.

That year, Welter also became the first woman to coach professional football of any kind when she joined the staff of the Champions Indoor Football league’s Texas Revolution.

Welter had previously joined the Revolution as a running back, making her the second woman to play a non-special teams position in pro football. She was a two-time gold medalist for Team USA at the IFAF Women’s World Championship.

Welter holds a master’s degree in sport psychology from Boston College and a Ph.D. in psychology from Capella University. She has received a bevy of awards including the United Nations’ Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Sports Pioneer award.
