Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Golden Tate Holds Hometown Skills Camp

Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate is passionate about giving back to the Middle Tennessee region where he grew up. This weekend, he held his second annual skills camp at his alma mater, Pope John Paul II High School.

There were hundreds of participants in the various drills and scrimmages on Saturday. Tate had an active role at the camp, patrolling around to give advice and step in on drills.

Several of his Lions teammates were on-hand as well. The night prior to the camp, Detroit running back Ameer Abdullah was the keynote speaker for the Golden Tate Scholar's Dinner.

Tate has been with the Lions for three seasons and turned in one of his best campaigns in 2016. He had 91 catches for 1,077 yards and four touchdowns while helping lead Detroit to the playoffs.

During his first season in Detroit, Tate made the Pro Bowl after recording 99 receptions for 1,331 yards and four touchdowns. He spent the first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and won Super Bowl XLVIII with the franchise.

The Seahawks originally selected Tate in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Notre Dame, where he was a unanimous All-American and the Biletnikoff Award in 2009.
