Fields and Futures Bowtie Ball Names Former Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops Featured Speaker

Despite stepping down as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners before the season, Bob Stoops is still a big name in the state. Later this year, he will be the featured speaker at the Fields and Futures Bowtie Ball.

The event takes place December 14th at 6 p.m. at the Chevy Bricktown Events Center in Oklahoma City. The Fields and Futures non-profit works to renovate athletic fields in the Oklahoma City Public Schools system.

Proceeds raised at the ball go towards field construction, field maintenance and encouraging student participation in sports. Stoops has been a longtime supporter of the program.

Stoops was the head coach of the Sooners for 18 seasons and won ten Big 12 titles. Oklahoma finished ranked in the top 25 11 times, won at least ten games 12 times and went 9-9 in bowl games under his watch.

In Stoops' second season, the Sooners captured the BCS National Championship. He was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year six times and won a total of 190 games.

Before arriving in Norman, Stoops was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Florida. He had lengthy tenures as an assistant at Kansas State and at his alma mater, Iowa.
