Former All-Star Jose Canseco Speaks at Mercer Baseball First Pitch Classic

Mercer baseball annually brings in some of the biggest names in baseball history to speak at their First Pitch Classic. This year, they have lined up former All-Star Jose Canseco to keynote.

The event takes place February 7th at Hawkins Arena. Canseco will tell stories about his up and down life in the sport.

Tickets are currently available. In addition to hearing Canseco speak, it should be a great night to be introduced to the 2017 Bears roster and hear about the outlook for the season.

Canseco was a six-time All-Star and made five of those appearances while with the Oakland A's. He stormed onto the scene in 1986 with 33 home runs and 117 RBI while being named American League Rookie of the Year.

In 1988, Canseco hit a league-leading 42 home runs and 40 stolen bases on the way to winning AL Most Valuable Player. The following season, he helped Oakland win the World Series.

After winning a final championship with the New York Yankees in 2000, Canseco retired in 2001. He has 462 career homers, which ranks 35th all-time in baseball history.
