Former Austin Peay Basketball Coach Dave Loos Speaks at Coaches vs. Cancer Event Next Thursday

Dave Loos took the Austin Peay basketball program to new heights. As a local sports celebrity and someone who has dealt with cancer on a personal level, he was the perfect speaker for the American Cancer Society of Nashville's Coaches vs. Cancer Tennessee Tip-Off.

The event takes place on September 28th at 6 p.m. at the Commodore Ballroom in the Student Life Center on the campus of Vanderbilt University. There will be some talk about the upcoming college basketball season and networking with area fans.

Loos himself is a cancer survivor and his seven-year-old granddaughter, Rhyan, is currently fighting neuroblastoma. Former Valparaiso head coach Homer Drew is the event's keynote speaker.

Loos was the head coach at Austin Peay from 1990-2017 and collected 420 victories at the school. He took the Governors to the NCAA Tournament four times.

Austin Peay won four Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles under his watch. Loos is the school's winningest coach and was a four-time OVC Coach of the Year.

From 1997-2013, Loos was also the athletic director at Austin Peay. He began his head coaching career at Christian Brothers and also spent time coaching at his alma mater, Memphis State.
