Former College Football Coach Bill Curry Keynotes Acadian Ambulance Medic of the Year Luncheon

Acadian Ambulance held their Medic of the Year Luncheon on Thursday. Former college football coach Bill Curry served as keynote speaker.

The event was held at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. Curry and many of the medical honorees carried a common theme throughout their speeches about the power of teamwork.

Curry shared several anecdotes from his playing and coaching career. Acadian Ambulance has over 2,000 paramedics and EMTs in nine regions across the state.

Curry began his coaching career at Georgia Tech before moving on to serve as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers from 1977-79. He went back to his hometown of Atlanta to serve as head coach of the Yellow Jackets from 1980-86.

In 1985, Curry led GT to a 9-2-1 record and was named Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year. He went on to the University of Alabama and led them to a Southeastern Conference title in 1989.

That season, Curry was named the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year and won his second SEC Coach of the Year award. He also had a tenure at Kentucky from 1990-96 and came back to start Georgia State's football program in 2008.
