Former Fan Favorite Quarterback Doug Flutie Keynotes TCPalm Sports Awards

For years, quarterback Doug Flutie dazzled on the football field, picking up legions of fans along the way. There was no question his most recent appearance at the TCPalm Sports Awards was well received.

He was the keynote speaker at the event Monday night, which was held at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce, Florida. Flutie was able to reminisce about some of the successes in his playing career.

After he addressed the crowd, Flutie participated in a Q&A session on stage. He was asked by fellow former NFL QB and moderator Rich Campbell what allowed him to be a great quarterback.

Flutie became nationally recognized after throwing a hail mary in 1984 to lead Boston College over Miami. The publicity from the play led in part to him winning the Heisman Trophy and Davey O'Brien Award that season.

Flutie entered the professional ranks after his senior year, but found his greatest success when he joined the CFL in 1990. He was the league's Most Oustanding Player six times and won three Grey Cups.

In 1993, Flutie returned to the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He also spent time with the San Diego Chargers and New England Patriots before retiring in 2006.
