Former Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield Keynotes Combat Sports Symposium

On Saturday, the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission held their inaugural Combat Sports Symposium. They added some star power to the proceedings with boxing champion Evander Holyfield serving as keynote speaker. 

Activities were hosted were free at the Norton Medical Plaza. There were around 30 athletes, trainers and promoters assembled for the event.

The newest developments in athlete health and safety were featured at the conference. Other topics like financial planning and athlete promotion were also addressed. 

Holyfield is the former undisputed champion in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. He was a four-time world heavyweight champion. 

Holyfield defeated former heavyweight champions like George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson during his career. His 1996 bout against Tyson was labeled Fight of the Year by The Ring magazine. 

Before turning professional, Holyfield won a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1984 Olympics. He is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame's Class of 2017.
