Former NFL Running Back William Green Speaks at Men's Prayer Breakfast in Arkansas

This morning, former NFL running back William Green shared a story about life’s challenges with the people of Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Green was the guest speaker at the 44th annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.

The breakfast was held at the Executive Hotel at the Civic Center and cost $15 to attend.  It was hosted by the Christian Business Men’s Committee.

Green speaks to groups all around the country about how he turned his life around.  Drugs and alcohol were just a portion of the problems that derailed his NFL career, but now he has become a positive influence in the community.

Even early in his life, Green had to overcome the death of both parents to AIDS just to make it to the league.  He was a two-time All-Big East pick and consensus All-American in 2001 at Boston College, making him one of the most sought-after running backs in the 2002 NFL Draft.

The Cleveland Browns selected Green 16th overall and he played for the franchise for four seasons.  Overall, he rushed for 2,109 yards and had nine rushing touchdowns.

Now, his most important missions are inspiring others and making sure they do not make the same mistakes.  Green also has the privilege of raising eight kids with his wife Asia at their home in New Jersey.
