Former NFL Wide Receiver Sterling Sharpe Speaks at the Orangeburg Touchdown Club

Despite being a Georgia native, former NFL wide receiver Sterling Sharpe had never traveled a few counties over to Orangeburg, South Carolina. That changed last Thursday when he was a speaker at the Orangeburg Touchdown Club.

The event was held at The Cinema. The primary focus of Sharpe's message was to encourage better communication between people from all backgrounds.

He also shared several stories about his time at the University of South Carolina. Sharpe specifically addressed the high school football players in attendance as well.

Sharpe set Gamecocks career records with 169 receptions, 2,497 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers selected him with the seventh overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft.

Sharpe played his entire six-year career with the Packers and he was selected to five Pro Bowls. He was also a three-time All-Pro and led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice.

At the height of his career, Sharpe, unfortunately, suffered a career-ending neck injury. He is a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.
