Hall of Fame Manager Whitey Herzog Named Keynote Speaker at Will County Old Timers Baseball Association Banquet

Will County, Illinois will have a baseball luminary in their midst at the 67th annual Old Timers Baseball Association banquet.  Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog is set to be the keynote speaker.

The event will be held on January 21st at the Clarion Hotel.  Individual tickets cost $50 and a table of ten can be purchased for $500.

Herzog achieved great notoriety during his managerial stints with the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals.  He made his first splash with the Royals, winning three consecutive American League West titles in the late 1970s.

Herzog’s legacy would truly be cemented after joining the Cardinals in 1980.  He piloted the franchise to a win in the 1982 World Series and two other National League pennants.

Getting the Cardinals to the Fall Classic in 1985 earned Herzog NL Manager of the Year honors.  He also became famous around this time for his brand of baseball, dubbed "Whiteyball", that was focused on pitching, speed, and defense.

Herzog was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.  That year, his #24 jersey was retired by the Cardinals and in 2014, he became a member of the team’s inaugural Hall of Fame class.
