Hockey Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour Speaks at University of Saskatchewan Alumni Luncheon

Last month, Hockey Hall of Famer Doug Gilmour preached the message of education at the University of Saskatchewan Huskies annual alumni luncheon.  Gilmour was the guest speaker at the event.

Gilmour talked about the free education that many hockey leagues provide even after a player becomes a professional.  The Western Hockey League even gives a year of free tuition and books for every year played in junior hockey.

Gilmour himself is currently very influential on the junior level.  He is the general manager of the Ontario Hockey League’s Kingston Frontenacs.

Most remember Gilmour for his 20 seasons on NHL ice.  The two-time All-Star scored over 1,400 points in his career and became known for playing a physical brand of hockey.

Gilmour’s best seasons came with the Toronto Maple Leafs and has his #93 honored by the franchise.  While with the Leafs in the 1992-93 season, he won the Frank J. Selke Trophy and set the club’s record for points with 127.

Gilmour also won a Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989.  He originally broke onto the scene as a star in juniors, leading the OHL in points and winning league MVP honors in 1982-83.
