Houston Texans Defensive Tackle Vince Wilfork Speaks Out Against Police Violence

Vince Wilfork is joining the chorus of pro athletes who have spoken out against police violence.  Wilfork had a childhood friend shot and killed on October 18th by a police officer out of uniform.

Corey Jones was shot three times in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida outside of his broken-down vehicle.  The police chief is contending that Jones was armed and approaching the officer.

Wilfork says he hopes answers that help cut down on incidents like this are found.

“I have nothing against (law enforcement), but at the same time you’re dealing with somebody that was shot dead,” Wilfork said Thursday. “We have to figure it out as a society. Not just this case but the cases that’s been going on for a while now. We have to try to figure out a solution. I think everybody needs to be held accountable. Plain and simple.”

As a veteran in his 12th NFL season, Wilfork has a unique platform to speak about difficult issues.  He has been doing good for years in the community through the Vince Wilfork Foundation.

Wilfork is currently in his first season with the Houston Texans after spending his entire career with the New England Patriots.  He won two Super Bowls in New England and has been considered one of the best defensive tackles in the league for a number of years.

Wilfork has been named to five Pro Bowls.  He was a first round pick of the Patriots after starring at the University of Miami and winning a national title in 2002.
