Iconic Sportswriter Bob Ryan Holds Q&A Appearance at University of Alabama

This afternoon, iconic sportswriter Bob Ryan is making a stop at the University of Alabama. He will participate in a question and answer session on behalf of the Alabama Program in Sports Communication. 

Ryan's speaking engagement takes place at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Center. He is scheduled to speak about various media platforms with a focus on how they apply to sports. 

The event will be moderated by the sports communication program director, Andrew Billings. The event is open to the public and audience questions will also be taken. 

Ryan has written for The Boston Globe since 1968. While he is now retired, his columns covering Boston sports still appear semi-regularly in the paper. 

After starting out as a sports intern at The Globe, Ryan was quickly assigned to be the beat writer for the Boston Celtics. He went on to cover all sports, including 20 NBA Finals, 20 Final Fours, nine World Series and five Super Bowls. 

Ryan was selected as the National Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association four times. He became well-known to a national audience through his appearance on ESPN shows like "Around the Horn," "Pardon the Interruption" and "The Sports Reporters."
