Juan Pablo Montoya Captures Improbable Indianapolis 500

The ever-versatile racecar driver Juan Pablo Montoya was once again at the top of his sport this weekend.  Montoya won his second career Indianapolis 500 on Sunday.

The 15-year gap between victories is an all-time record.  It was also the 15th Indy 500 win for owner Roger Penske.

Just as shocking as victory for Montoya was when he was a rookie in 2000, this race had its own intrigue as well.  He came from behind to win over Will Power in the fourth-closest “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” ever.

Montoya has raced in Formula One, NASCAR, Grand-Am, and Champ in addition to his time in IndyCar.  He has been victorious on every series, something that very few drivers can claim.

After a seven-year run in NASCAR Sprint Cup, Montoya just returned to IndyCar in 2014.  He won twice in NASCAR and was the series Rookie of the Year in 2007.

Montoya also has seven Formula One wins to his credit.  In his first Champ Car season, he was the CART Series champion.

As a native of Columbia, Montoya also stands as a shining example of diversity in racing.
