Magic Johnson Named Featured Speaker at the Xavier University Commencement Ceremony

Former NBA all-star Magic Johnson will be joining Eric Holder, the U.S. Attorney General; will be some of the keynote speakers at the commencement ceremony for Xavier University in May 2015. Normally, there is only one speaker that the university’s event however this year they are trying to bring in some different names from a variety of career fields. While it hasn't been disclosed what the topic of Johnson’s speech will be, it will surely hit a home run with the audience as he is one of the biggest names in sports history.

The five-time NBA champion played professionally for 12 years straight with the Los Angeles Lakers between the years of 1979 and 1991. He then took a break to coach his team in 1994, and returned for one last year of playing the sport in 1996. Johnson’s number 32 was retired by the Los Angeles Lakers, as he is one of the few players out there who spent their entire career with only one team.

The point guard was named as the NBA Finals MVP three times in the years 1980, 1982, and 1987, and he participated on NBA All-Star team nine times. In addition to that, Johnson made the Olympics 1992 “Dream Team” along with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird and Charles Barkley which was famous for being unstoppable. His speech for the new graduates is likely going to be about having a strong work ethic and overcoming adversity.
