Marcus Lattimore Delivers Inspiring Speech To Packed Crowd at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center

Former University of South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore gave a heartwarming talk at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center over a breakfast function that was hosted by members of the YMCA of Columbia and the Palmetto Center for Women on March 20. During his speech Lattimore focused on discussing his faith and how it helped him get through some of the toughest times of his life, despite it being difficult once in a while. The former collegiate football star emphasized that his upbringing in the church is what planted the seed of his faith, but it wasn’t until he went to the University of South Carolina that he found a way to make it a bigger part of his lifestyle. Lattimore had to deal with several injuries and deaths of close family members during his time as a student which put his emotional well-being to test, but he came out stronger at the end of it thanks to God.

In 2012 Lattimore was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers for a deal worth well over $8 million dollars for four years, but due to an injury he got from playing college ball he was never able to step on the field during a game. Eventually, the former running back had to retire from the sport before he officially begun it due to that injury which was extremely devastating to him. In 2014, he announced his retirement from football and moved back home to Columbia to return to school and continue his education.

Lattimore’s inspiring speech showed a lot of courage to the audience as it was difficult for him to overcome making it to the big leagues only to leave it a few months later. His strong faith is what made him an ideal candidate to speak at this event, which coincides with his current mission to spread the word of God.
