Mixed Martial Arts Legend Fedor Emelianenko Returns After Three-Year Hiatus on Spike TV

One of the greats in mixed martial arts history is returning to competition after a three-year hiatus.  Fedor Emelianenko has long captured the imaginations of MMA fans and the heavyweight hopes to do the same again with a nationwide audience on Spike TV this morning.

Emelianenko (34-4) is on the comeback trail with Rizin Fighting Federation and is fighting against Jaideep Singh (2-0) on New Year's Eve at the famed Saitama Super Arena in Japan.  With a 10:00 a.m. ET start time on the broadcast, Spike TV is billing the MMA mega event  as Breakfast With Fedor.

The Emelianenko fight is the culmination of a two-day Rizin event in Japan.  Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal is also featured on the card as part of a heavyweight tournament.

Emelianenko is known for his run from 2003-2007 as Pride Heavyweight Champion.  That streak made him longest reigning lineal champion in the division in MMA history.

Overall, Emelianenko won 28 fights in a row while defeating four former UFC champions and 11 top-ten ranked fighters.  Sports Illustrated named him Fighter of the Decade for the 2000s and also noted his 2005 decision win over Mirko Cro Cop as Fight of the Decade.

Following a new three-fight win streak, Emelianenko originally retired from the sport in 2012.  Since that time, he has been active in Russian politics, serving as President of the Russian MMA Union, a staff member of Russia's Presidential Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and as a Belgorod Regional Duma deputy.
