NBA Superstar Kevin Durant Appears in First Ads for Sonic

The drive-in chain Sonic has never done an endorsement deal with an athlete prior to signing Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant this fall.  Now, Durant has a new ad campaign for the fast-food juggernaut.

Both ads currently out feature Durant with the signature “Two Guys” duo that Sonic uses in many of their spots.  The commercials are used to promote two new Nerds-infused Slushes.

When news of the partnership originally broke, Sonic also said that Durant would be involved in product creation and as an ambassador for the company’s Limeades for Learning Foundation.  With the corporate headquarters based in Oklahoma City, the match has seemed to be a good fit from the start.

Durant is certainly no stranger to showing off his magnetic personality for different brands.  Last summer, he agreed to a 10-year extension with Nike that could net him as much as $300 million.

Some of the other companies Durant has worked with include Sprint, Skullcandy headphones, and BBVA Compass bank.

His fan-friendly nature in concert with unique on-court talents has made him one of the biggest endorsers in sports.  Durant is a six-time All-Star and was the 2014 NBA MVP.

The Thunder have built their franchise around the four-time scoring champ.  In 2012, they won the Western Conference and advanced to the NBA Finals with Durant averaging over 28 points per game in the playoffs.

There was no question that a star was in the making when he was the first freshman to ever win the Naismith College Player of the Year award while at Texas.  Durant ended up being the second pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, went on to win Rookie of the Year honors, and has not looked back since.
