New Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Jameis Winston Speaks at Alabama Middle School

Last Tuesday, new Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston made the day of students at an Alabama middle school.  Winston spoke to a packed gym at Ossie Ware Mitchell Middle School in Birmingham.

Winston’s speech mostly centered on inspiring the students to strive to make good grades and have confidence.  A teacher at the school whose brother works with the quarterback invited him to speak.

Winston gave the speech less than a week after being the number one pick in the NFL Draft.  He has signed a four-year, $23.5 million contract with the Buccaneers.

As a redshirt freshman at Florida State, Winston led the Seminoles to the National Championship and won the Heisman Trophy.  FSU would also make the inaugural College Football Playoff during his sophomore season.

Overall, Winston was 26-1 as a Noles’ starter, throwing for 7,964 yards, 65 touchdowns, and only 28 interceptions.  He also played baseball at FSU and was noted for his leadership abilities in both sports by his teammates.

The Buccaneers are now hoping that that ability to inspire and charismatic personality will translate to the next level.
