NFL Rushing Champ DeMarco Murray Receives Award in Rochester Monday Night

NFL running back DeMarco Murray switched teams this offseason, but he is still racking up awards.  The new Philadelphia Eagle will be honored in Rochester, New York tonight as the Coca Cola Sports Personality of the Year.

Murray will receive the honor at the 66th Rochester Press-Radio Club Day of Champions Children’s Charities Dinner.  The dinner at the Joseph A. Floreano Riverside Convention Center starts at 6:00 and costs $130 per person.

Several awesome prizes will be auctioned off during the evening as well.

As an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Murray decided to sign with Chip Kelly’s Eagles.  He has made back-to-back Pro Bowls for the Dallas Cowboys.

In 2014, Murray led the NFL and set a Cowboys’ single-season record with 1,845 rushing yards.  He also started the year with eight straight 100-yard games, which is also a league best mark.

For his tremendous season, Murray won AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year.  The Cowboys originally drafted him in 2011 out of Oklahoma where he set school records for touchdowns and all-purpose yards.

In addition to his great on-field accomplishments, Murray is also receiving the Sports Personality of the Year award for his foundation’s work in youth education.  Other notable athletes like Arnold Palmer, Peyton Manning, and Cal Ripken Jr. have been some of the past winners.
