NFL Star Vince Wilfork Gives Commencement Speech at a New England College

A player best known for his run of dominance with the New England Patriots was back in the region Sunday to speak. Now-Houston Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork spoke at the commencement for New England Institute of Technology in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Wilfork themed his speech around the doubters he had during his career and how to tune out those negative influences in one’s life.  In addition to speaking, he received a honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

Wilfork has spent all 11 seasons of his career with the Patriots prior to signing with the Texans this offseasons.  The five-time Pro Bowler has been a pillar on the defense of two Super Bowl champion teams.

New England originally selected Wilfork 21st overall out of Miami in the 2004 NFL Draft.  He played three seasons for the Hurricanes, won a National Championship, and was a first-team All-Big East pick as a junior.

As a staple in the community, Wilfork has said no matter what team he goes to that he will always be a Patriot.  He started the Vince Wilfork Foundation early in his career to support diabetes research.
