Reading Hot Stovers Banquet Names Former Baseball Star Bill Buckner a Speaker

The Reading Hot Stovers have been supporting local baseball in their Pennsylvania region for 53 years. On January 19th, they will host their annual banquet at the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton.

One of four speakers at the event is former baseball star Bill Buckner. The evening kicks off with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. and after multiple auctions, the banquet begins at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets to attend are $60. In addition to the speakers, there will be several scholarships given out, award presentations and autographs.

Buckner had a 22-year major league career and played for five different franchises. He collected over 2,700 hits in his career and was an All-Star in 1981.

One year prior to his All-Star selection, Buckner led the National League in batting at .324. While he is best known for his fielding blunder in the 1986 World Series, he also was a key contributor for several standout Boston Red Sox teams.

After stints with the California Angels and Kansas City Royals, Buckner retired from baseball following a final campaign with Boston in 1990. After his playing days, he has become a real estate investor and worked as a coach.
