Retired Kansas City Royals Great Bret Saberhagen Speaks at Mickey Mantle Classic Awards Dinner Next Week

The Mickey Mantle Classic takes place in the legendary baseball star's hometown of Commerce, Oklahoma, and other surrounding areas. It is a top high school wood bat tournament that runs April 3-8. 

Former standout pitcher Bret Saberhagen is the speaker at the Classic's Awards Banquet on April 8th. Earlier in the day, he will also make an appearance at Mickey Mantle Field in Commerce. 

The banquet will be held at First Christian Church in Miami and tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. There will be live and silent auctions available. 

Saberhagen won 167 games over a 16-year career. He made his major league debut and his greatest impact with the Kansas City Royals from 1984-1991 

Saberhagen won two American League Cy Young Awards with the Royals. During his first Cy Young season, he pitched two complete games as the Royals won the 1985 World Series in seven games. 

Saberhagen was named Most Valuable Player of the series. Overall, he was a three-time All-Star and is a member of the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame.
