South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner Keynotes All Lakelands Banquet

Players from the state of South Carolina were honored at the All-Lakelands Banquet Monday. Some words of wisdom were imparted to the group by South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner

The event honored 31 different players. It was hosted by the Index-Journal and the Greenwood Touchdown Club at St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Tanner specifically hit on the value of education. He also talked about having good character and warned the players about what they post on social media.

Before his tenure as AD, Tanner was a standout baseball coach for the Gamecocks. He coached USC from 1997-2012 and led them to six College World Series appearances.

South Carolina won the College World Series in 2010 and 2011. They also won the Southeastern Conference three times and Tanner was a three-time SEC Coach of the Year.

Tanner began his head coaching career at North Carolina State and won over 1,100 games. He had guided the Gamecocks athletic department for six years and his programs have won eight regular season or postseason titles.
