The Dikembe Mutombo Foundation Caring For Congo Gala is August 19th

Not many individuals from the world of sports have led more charitable efforts in Africa then former NBA big man Dikembe Mutombo.  On August 19th, Mutombo’s foundation will hold the Caring for Congo Gala at the St. Regis in Atlanta.

The night will start with a cocktail reception at 6:30 with a dinner to follow at 7:30.  Ticket information can be found by emailing Allison@NewsworthyProductions.com.

The Dikembe Mutombo Foundation is specifically geared towards improving the health of people in the Congo.  All proceeds from the Gala will benefit the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital.

Mutombo’s 18-year career earned him induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.  He was an eight-time All-Star and four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

All told, he finished second all-time to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in career blocks.  Mutombo led the league in blocks three times and in rebounding twice.

He played in 13 postseasons and went to the NBA Finals with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001.  Mutombo was originally the fourth overall pick out of Georgetown in the 1991 NBA Draft.
