U.S. Olympic Hero Mike Eruzione Headlines List of Former Hockey Stars at Diamond Resorts Invitational

The Diamond Resorts Invitational in Orlando, Florida promises to be one of the most star-studded celebrity golf tournaments of the year.  The event runs January 12th-17th, will be televised nationally, and feature over 50 famous faces from the worlds of sports and entertainment.

1980 Olympic hero Mike Eruzione leads a group of hockey greats from the past who are attending the tournament.  Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano and two-time Stanley Cup Champion Pierre Larouche are also in the field.

In addition to Eruzione and his hockey friends, ten Hall of Fame athletes from other sports dot the list of attendees.  A $500,000 purse will be awarded at the end of the 54-hole Diamond Resorts Invitational and the tournament benefits Florida Hospital for Children.  

Eruzione achieved life-long notoreity as captain of the United States "Miracle on Ice" hockey team in 1980 and by scoring the winning goal over the Soviet Union in the semifinal match of the tournament.  The U.S. would go on to beat Finland in the gold medal game and the highlight of his goal against the Soviets is one of the most played in sports history.

Following his historic achievement, Eruzione was not drafted by the NHL, but still stayed around the game.  He became a broadcaster, calling NHL games for USA Network and FOX, as well as providing commentary for ABC and CBS at five Olympic Games.  

Today, Eruzione is Director of Special Outreach at his alma mater, Boston University.  He is also one of the most highy sought corporate speakers from the sports world.
