WNBA Legend Rebecca Lobo Speaks at the Anthem Girls Symposium Next Month

As a Hartford native and former basketball star at the University of Connecticut, Rebecca Lobo is a sporting legend in the state. She will be speaking at the Anthem Girls Symposium as part of the festivities around the Connecticut Open next month.

The event takes place on August 24th at the Courtside Club at the Connecticut Tennis Center. There will be 125 female high school athletes from the state assembled to hear from Lobo.

She is scheduled to talk about how sports build strong leadership skills for life. It should be a great precursor to Lobo's September enshrinement into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Lobo was the consensus national player of the year and led the Huskies to a 35-0 record and national championship in 1995. She also helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 1996 Olympics.

Lobo joined the New York Liberty for the WNBA"s inaugural season in 1997. She was an All-WNBA Second Team pick that first year and an All-Star in 1999.

Lobo also spent one season each with the Houston Comets and Connecticut Sun before retiring in 2003. She has done significant broadcasting work since with ESPN, covering women's college basketball and the WNBA.
