Ben Jacobson Biography

Ben Jacobson was born in Mayville, North Dakota and played his college basketball at the University of North Dakota from 1989 to 1993.  During that time he was a top performer and finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in assists.  From 1991 to 1993 he served as the team’s captain and helped the Sioux to two NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances.  After earning his undergraduate degree with top scores he turned his focus to coaching and joined the North Dakota coaching staff.  He served as an assistant at his alma mater for seven seasons until being hired as an assistant at North Dakota State in 2000.  In 2001 he joined the Northern Iowa coaching staff as an assistant and was later promoted to head coach in 2006.  Since taking over the Northern Iowa program he has led the Panthers to two Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2009 and 2010 and was named MVC Coach of the Year in both seasons.  In 2009-10 his team posted a 30-5 record and made an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
