Carly Patterson Biography

Carly Patterson former Olympic champion gymnast. When Patterson was a child, began tumbling and jumping around her house, which did not have much room, so her mother enrolled her in gymnastics. In 2002, Patterson was named the U.S. Junior National All-Around champion. Patterson sat out during the 2003 U.S. National Championships due to a broken elbow. In 2004, Patterson became a co-champion in the all-around event at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships. Patterson attended the 2004 Summer Olympics where she won the gold medal in the All-Around event, the silver medal in Team Competition and Balance Beam. After the Olympics, it was discovered that Patterson had several bulging disks in her lower back that had gone unnoticed. She intended on taking time off from the sport to rehabilitate her back, but she decided to retire in 2006. Since her retirement, she has been very productive, she authorized a biography that was released in April 2006 and in 2012, she became a spokesperson for Taylor’s Gift Foundation.
