Jamarcus Russell Biography

Jamarcus Russell was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. The Oakland Raiders selected him based on his overall athleticism and body of work while playing at Louisiana State University. In 2006 Russell earned the Manning Award as the top collegiate quarterback and also earned First-Team All-SEC honors. Upon joining the Raiders in 2007 he signed a six-year $68 million contract, including $31.5 million guaranteed. During his first season as a starter in 2008 he passed for 2,423 yards and 13 touchdowns, and would go on to pass for over 4,000 yards and 18 touchdowns during his first three seasons. In 2010 Russell became a free agent and attempted a comeback to the NFL in 2013 but it did not work out. Despite not being involved in professional football he remains a trusted brand ambassador, appearing in a popular Dish Network commercial in 2014.
