Marquis Grissom Biography

Marquis Grissom is a former MLB player, most recently known for his time playing center field for the San Francisco Giants. Grissom was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1965 and after playing baseball all his life, went on to play at Florida A&M University. In 1988, Grissom was selected as the 76th overall pick by the Montreal Expos. Throughout his seventeen years in the MLB, Grissom played for six different teams, including the Expos, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants, respectively. More importantly, he inspired many throughout those seventeen years as he won four Gold Glove Awards, was recognized as the American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player in 1997, and was a two-time All-Star. Grissom also gave back to the sport he loved after retirement when he was hired as the first base coach for the Washington Nationals for the 2009 season.
