1986 World Series Hero Mookie Wilson Set for Autograph Appearance at Somerset Patriots Game

Nearly 30 years after his World Series glory, New York Mets fans are still enamored by Mookie Wilson.  You can bet that Mets supporters in Ridgewood, New Jersey will flock to the Somerset Patriots game next month that he is scheduled to attend.

On July 29th, Wilson will be the featured guest and throw out the ceremonial first pitch at "Amazin' Mets Night".  It is a fitting tribute in the 30th anniversary year of that iconic team that took the Big Apple by storm.

The Patriots take on the Bridgeport Bluefish that evening and Wilson will sign autographs from the start of the game through the seventh inning.  There is also a special Meet & Greet Diamond Club package for $86 that allows fans a pregame opportunity to meet the ex-outfielder.

Wilson is best remembered for lacing the ground ball that went through Boston Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner's legs and allowed the winning run to score in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.  He was more than just a one-hit wonder however.

In a decade-long run with the Mets, Wilson proved to be a reliable switch-hitter and one of the top stolen base threats in baseball.  He also played three seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays before retiring in 1991.

Wilson was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1996.  Since his retirement, he has held several coaching jobs in baseball and published the book, "Mookie: Life, Baseball and the '86 Mets" in 2014.
