All-Time Home Run King Barry Bonds Back in Baseball as Miami Marlins Hitting Coach

One of baseball's most iconic names is back in the game. The Miami Marlins officially announced that all-time home run king Barry Bonds would be joining the coaching staff.

Bonds heads down to Miami with new manager Don Mattingly. He will serve as the team's hitting coach.

Stints as a spring training special instructor with the San Francisco Giants the past two seasons have given Bonds some on the job training. His experience as one of the game's greatest hitters and a life spent in the clubhouse should only help his cause as well.

The 51-year-old played 22 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Giants. He racked up 14 All-Star selections and a record seven National League MVP awards.

In addition to the career home run mark, the 73 long balls Bonds smashed in 2001 is a single season record. His eight Gold Gloves and over 500 stolen bases also highlight the multi-faceted performer he was on the diamond.

Bonds last played in the big leagues in 2007. His father Bobby was a three-time All-Star and godfather Willie Mays is one of baseball's living legends.
