Andre Dawson was the Guest Speaker at the First Christian Church of Miami Awards Banquet

Baseball Hall of Famer Andre Dawson was the guest speaker for the awards banquet at the First Christian Church of Miami on April 4th and the event was a huge hit. Not only did fans have an opportunity to hear one of the biggest baseball players talk about his life as a professional athlete, but they also got a chance to bid for a wooden bat that was broken by the one and only Mickey Mantle. Tickets to get into the banquet costed $25 per person, and many sports sponsors were able to give a hand to helping a launch for another minor division team a good kickstart.

The eight-time All Star player was in the MLB for a solid two decades, as he got to be a part of a few different teams like the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and the Florida Marlins. He is also the 1987 Home Run Derby champion and has eight Golden Glove awards to his name as well. In 2010 Dawson was elected to join the elite Baseball Hall of Fame despite never have winning a World Series game. He was one of the biggest players of the era, and even though new techniques were formed over the years to make players even better, Dawson is still looked at as one of the most talented people to ever play in the league.

He will be attended the First Christian Church of Miami’s banquet earlier this month to be there for this year’s award winners in the local area, and to give a speech about his career on the field. Families came from all around to listen to the athlete, and to be enlightened by his tales of the baseball world.
