Uniqlo is looking long term when it comes to rising tennis star Kei Nishikori. They recently agreed to a $50 million extension on their endorsement deal with Nishikori that originally started in 2011.
The contract will position the clothing brand to feature him during the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. His deal is said to eclipse that of even world number one Novak Djokovic, who is also signed with Uniqlo.
Nishikori has run up an impressive list of partner companies including Wilson Tennis, Adidas, Japan Airlines, Jaguar, and Tag Heuer. Similarly, Uniqlo has built a powerful endorser roster with Djokovic and golfer Adam Scott also on deals.
Nishikori is currently ranked seventh in the world and is the youngest player in the men's singles top ten. HIs most impressive achievement to date was becoming the first Asian player to reach the finals of a Grand Slam when he finished runner-up at the 2014 U.S. Open.
In addition to the strong showing in New York, Nishikori has won ten singles titles in his career and also reached the semis of the ATP World Tour Finals in 2014. He won three times on tour last year.
There was no doubt that Nishikori was bound for stardom upon turning pro in 2007. The very next year, he won his first event on tour and was named ATP Newcomer of the Year.
