Zack Hample is well known for one thing: catching baseballs. Over the weekend, he made by far his greatest catch when he snared Alex Rodriguez’s 3000th hit.
Hample has made this feat of collecting baseballs from stadiums commonplace. Overall, he has over 8,000 balls collected from 51 different stadiums.
As such an avid collector, it seems he might hold on to the Rodriguez ball as he indicated almost immediately upon acquiring it. There is also a chance he could reverse course if the Yankees donate to his favorite charity Pitch In For Baseball among other things.
The ball has been valued on the low end at $50,000. Even with all of Rodriguez’s past issues, it remains an important part of baseball history and a cool keepsake for Hample should he decide not to part with it.
In the past, he has caught other milestone balls such as Mike Trout’s first career home run and the 724th dinger of Barry Bonds’ record-breaking career. On his best night, Hample snagged 36 baseballs at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park in 2011.
Many major news outlets have chronicled his feats. Hample also has written three books and one of them landed on the best seller list for American sports books in 2007.
