Baseball Lifer Lou Piniella Speaks at Boy Scouts of America Event

The list of baseball accomplishments accredited to Lou Piniella is immense. He was able to talk about his life in baseball as the speaker at the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council Boy Scouts of America awards dinner.

The event took place Thursday night at Gennetti's in Wilkes-Barre. Piniella shared funny stories, particularly regarding the New York Yankees teams he played on in the 1970s.

He also shared the wish that he had been a Boy Scout as a kid. There were two scouts honored as Distinguished Citizens at the event.

Piniella played 16 big league seasons and won back-to-back World Series titles with the Yankees in 1977-78. He retired in 1984 and became the manager in New York in 1986.

After managing the Yankees, Piniella led the Cincinnati Reds to a World Series win in 1990. He was the manager of the Seattle Mariners for a decade and led them to four postseason appearances.

In 2001, the Mariners racked up a major league record 116 wins during the regular season. Piniella, who ranks 14th all-time in victories, also had managerial stints with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Chicago Cubs
