Basketball Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore Named Keynote Speaker at Augusta City Classic Hall of Fame

Basketball great Artis Gilmore knows what it’s like to be a Hall of Famer.  On October 8th, he will have the honor of delivering the keynote speech at a banquet that will give others that same feeling.

Gilmore has been chosen to speak at the Augusta City Classic Hall of Fame ceremony.  The event will be held at the Augusta Marriott adjacent to the city’s convention center.

Local high school coaching legend Larry Campbell and former NBA player Michael Curry will be this year’s inductees.  Ticket information can be found at www.augustacityclassic.com

Gilmore made nine combined All-Star teams between the ABA and NBA.  He embodied the freewheeling, high-scoring nature of basketball at the time.

In 1975, Gilmore won the ABA MVP, ABA Playoffs MVP, and helped guide the Kentucky Colonels to a championship.  He also holds the now-defunct league’s record for career blocks.

Gilmore is still active in the Jacksonville community, where he led Jacksonville University to the NCAA title game in 1970.  He currently serves as a Special Assistant to the President at JU and as a color commentator on the school’s radio broadcasts.
