Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton Keynotes San Diego Festival of Books Saturday

Bill Walton is a sports icon in his hometown of San Diego, California. On Saturday, he has the privilege of being the keynote speaker at the inaugural San Diego Festival of Books.

Walton will speak at 10:30 a.m. at Liberty Station's main hall. He is discussing his New York Times bestselling book, "Back from the Dead."

Admission to the book fair is free, but tickets for any of the panel discussions, including Walton's talk are $3. The San Diego Council on Literacy receives $1 from every ticket purchased.

Walton was a three-time national college player of the year at UCLA. While he was in school, the Bruins won two NCAA championships and he was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player each time.

The Portland Trail Blazers selected Walton with the top overall pick of the 1974 NBA Draft. He immediately made his presence felt, winning an NBA title in 1977 and being named Most Valuable Player in 1978.

While injuries would plague him for most of his career, Walton rebounded to be the NBA Sixth Man of the Year and win a second championship with the Boston Celtics in 1986. He remains a vital part of basketball today as an entertaining color analyst for ESPN.
