Former American sportswriter for The Boston Globe, Bob Ryan, is set to be the main speaker at the Communion Breakfast at The Warehouse in Holyoke on Sunday March 15. The breakfast starts at 8am and costs $20 for anyone to attend, and Ryan will be there to sign autographed copies of his self-authored book featuring his life and career as a sports writer.
The New Jersey native regularly appears on a show called “Sports Reporters” that is aired on ESPN, and he finished his career up after the coverage of the 2012 London Olympic games. Ryan is known to many for his stories covering the Boston Celtics during the 1970s, and is often referred to as a sports guru. In 2006 he received the Dick Schaap Award for Outstanding Journalism and in 2000 he was named the AP National Sportswriter of the Year. After his retirement was finalized, Ryan agreed to regularly appear as a occasional guest host on ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” as well as a column emeritus for The Boston Globe. In addition to that, Ryan has a radio show every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that is a half an hour long talk while interviewing other sportswriters about ten issues related to New England Sports.
The 44 year veteran of sports writing is helping to promote friendship and Christian charity at this benefit breakfast, and is expected to discuss human rights topics as well as sports related stories on March 8 at annual event.
