Boise State Basketball Coach Leon Rice Keynotes Sports Stars of Canyon County Athletic Awards Night Next Month

The third annual Sports Stars of Canyon County Athletic Awards Night is being held on June 15th. Boise State basketball coach Leon Rice will be the keynote speaker. 

The event takes place at the Nampa Civic Center beginning at 6 p.m. and it is presented by Saint Alphonsus. The top student-athletes, teams and coaches from the Idaho Press-Tribune's coverage area will be recognized. 

Rice is going to share stories and provide humorous anecdotes from his 20-year coaching career. Individual tickets are $15 and tables of eight cost $100. 

Rice had guided the Broncos to five straight 20-win seasons. During his seven seasons with the program, BSU has made two NCAA Tournaments and four postseason appearances. 

In 2015, Boise State won their first Mountain West Conference regular season title. Rice was named MWC Coach of the Year. 

Rice honed his coaching skills as an assistant at Gonzaga for 12 seasons. He began his career as an assistant at Oregon before tenures at Northern Colorado and Yakima Valley Community College.
